Wheelchair Mobility Aid
Research and design remains an integral aspect of engineering. Within the scope of this project, we addressed that many elderly individuals possess weak arms and shoulders; therefore, they have difficulty moving their wheelchair by rotating the rear wheels. This wheelchair mobility issue was then built into a solution.
Defining the End User
To begin the project, my design team and I had to thoroughly define the end user. Within the scope of this project, we addressed that many elderly individuals possess weak arms and shoulders; therefore, they have difficulty moving their wheelchair by rotating the rear wheels. Properly defining the end user provides clarity for the purpose and end-goal of the product.

Engineering Modelling
Using engineering modelling capabilities within SOLDIWORKS, we assessed the performance of the prototype. Data was then used to improve the model.

The Final Product
Using SOLIDWORKS, a wheelchair attachment was created, complete with adjustable fasteners and lengths to make it universal to any wheelchair. With this project my CAD experience was solidified in persevering through the learning curve and creating the object I had envisioned.
